School Governors

We have recently appointed Ian Saunders and Mike Ashcroft as joint Chairs of the Governing Body.  This is a new initiative for Governing Bodies that has proved to be very successful and we are keen to continue with the arrangement: the County Council have shown a lot of enthusiasm and support for this arrangement.  We have taken the approach that by way of collaborative leadership we can use the best people and resources to lead and develop the progress and success of the school.

The school is taking massive strides in driving excellence with our children, and various initiatives ensure that every child counts, helping bring huge improvements in our results.  We can now see scores well above national averages in almost all of our key areas, and we are coming ahead of most of the other schools in the local area across the board.  It is only through good leadership and commitment from our teaching and support teams, alongside the children and parents/carers, that we can achieve this.

These are exciting times to be involved with Willingdon Primary, and we can all be proud of what our children are achieving.

Please take some time to Meet Our Governors, and if you do see any of us in the playground or at one of the school's many events, do come and say hello. If you feel that there is something specific you would like to discuss, please use the Governor email at: governors@willingdonprimary.co.uk

Michael Ashcroft Chair of Governors

mikeashcroft(2)

I have been a parent governor at Willingdon Primary School since November 2013. My two daughters either have been or remain pupils at the school. Although my eldest is now enjoying life at Willingdon Community School, my youngest is still at this school.

Since taking up the role I have been impressed with the dedication of the leadership team and staff in constantly driving for higher achievement and overall quality of education for the children. During my time as a governor the school has continued to improve and achieved a GOOD Ofsted rating across all areas at the most recent inspection.

I have taken a very active role in monitoring safeguarding and child protection as the lead governor in this important area. More recently I have been the Vice Chair of the Governing Body’s resources committee.

My working life has been dedicated to public service. I have over 25 years’ experience in the police service. Being a senior leader has included leading child and public protection teams in East Sussex as well as a wealth of experience working with a variety of partners that include Children’s services, the Local Safeguarding Children Board (LSCB), health services and schools.

Willingdon Primary School continues to make huge improvements. The governors, leadership team and teachers are determined to achieve outstanding status. I feel privileged to support these in my role as joint chair of governors. I look forward to meeting as many of you as possible over the coming year.
